Here at Windmill International, we’re huge fans of all kinds of dance – our Windmill girls are world famous for their dance abilities. We were the first club in the UK to showcase nude female dancers, and since then we’ve continued with our tradition of introducing the gentlemen of London to many new, seductive types of dancing. One of the most popular dance types, and one we regularly feature here at the Windmill, is burlesque.
Our dancers are the main attraction to those who come and visit us at the Windmill, and our burlesque performances always go down a storm. It’s one of the most alluring types of dancing out there, so it’s regularly used in popular culture to entice movie-goers!
If, for whatever reason, you can’t come and visit the Windmill (or to tide you over until your next visit!), we started thinking about the best, most mesmerising fictional burlesque dancers, from films and television. While we don’t think they quite live up to the standards of our very own Windmill girls, they are certainly pretty special! Here are our five favourites, the very best of pop culture’s burlesque dancers…
Natalie Portman in Closer
Natalie Portman is the greatest thing about this London set film. She plays an exotic dancer in a London club, complete with a pink wig, and shows off some amazing moves – especially when pole dancing.
Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge
In the opening scenes of Moulin Rouge, ravishing redhead Nicole Kidman showcases super seductive burlesque singing and dancing skills in the one of the world’s most famous gentlemen’s clubs…
Demi Moore in Striptease
The clue’s in the name when it comes to this movie – you just know it’s going to be good! Demi Moore plays the titular dancer and has visitors to her club in the palm of her hand with her mesmerising moves.
Christina Aguilera in Burlesque
This movie features hundreds of beautiful girls in various outstanding burlesque dance routines, and Christina Aguilera is the best of the best. The whole of this film showcases some amazing and really seductive routines.
Jessica Rabbit in Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Every man’s guilty pleasure and ‘cartoon crush’, Jessica Rabbit is also an iconic burlesque performer! Sultry singing voice, slinky dance moves and killer curves mean there was no way we could leave her off this list!
